Transforming Space: Kimball Arts Auction Dinner Before and After

Collaborative, refreshing, and remote – our Guardsman Pass Dinner was something truly special to work on, and one of the many examples in which Vivince has combined our love for unique event experiences with our support for the creative arts; this time leveraging our team in support of the Kimball Arts Center, an educational arts and exhibition center in Park City, Utah.  Together with our network of vendors and friends, we rallied to create a tasting dinner within the wilderness. With a truly organic venue as our backdrop, we set to work, transforming the space from rustic and raw to luxurious and inviting.

As we dove into the process, we were immediately faced with the challenges that the unmanicured venue presented us. Sitting at 9,500 ft elevation, the space had never landscaped.  It was left wild, providing us with both a challenge and opportunity to create a landscape suitable for a tasting dinner, without taking away from the venue’s natural charm.

Our team of volunteers didn’t miss a beat, though – it was all hands on deck to landscape our woodland space in such a short timeframe.  After creating a subtle pathway into a circular serene space and clearing the grounds, we built a platform that would lift the dining table off the forest floor and create a more comfortable experience among the trees. The table itself, sturdy and rustic, was custom built for the dinner; embodying the strong yet soothing mannerisms of the woods in which it was placed.

After the groundwork was laid, our team dug fire pits; one for guests to stay warm and gather around, as the evening progressed, and another for Firewood on Main to feature their signature open flame style of cooking.  A sense of place and romance was created. Candle lit lanterns lined the paths, while Chef John Murcko prepared his courses over the fire and Edison bulbs dangling from the branches slowly transitioned the pale dusk light to their warm glow. The evening lingered on and as the sun began to set, guests wrapped themselves in the blankets we placed on each chair, a practical yet personal touch that allowed them to continue enjoying the pairings from Parallel Wines.

From the initial site visit to the final detail, we are grateful for the way our team of collaborators were able to move heaven and earth (almost literally) to create an oasis within the Utah forest. The team of vendors and volunteers that powered everything from landscaping to lighting could not have been more cohesive, and we are so thankful for the way they helped us transform this space.
