An annual festival of spectacle, art, design, and social experimentation is one of the leading immersive experiential art festivals in the world. If you don’t already know it, the ten-day event just celebrated its 31st year, attracting an estimated 70,000 people to transform an otherwise barren strip of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert into Black Rock City.
Known for the radical personalities it attracts, the desert conditions and temporary nature of the festival cultivate an equally uninhibited environment of creative expression. Under the umbrella of this year’s theme: “Radical Ritual,” dancing, spirituality, and exploration of the amazing artwork pervaded the pop-up city. Don’t let the free spirits fool you, though, Burning Man is also an example of organizational excellence. Everything at Black Rock City and the surrounding playa is temporary; even their airport, which is built exclusively for the ten days, then dismantled every year. Take a look below, to see some Vivince favorite contributions from this year and years in the past.
